Chapecó: an economy 100% dedicated to
agri-business.

MercoAgro takes place in the city of Chapecó, in the west of Santa Catarina, deep in the heart of the Mercosur region. The city is one of the poles for world technology in meat and it is a regional base that possesses the largest concentration of meat processing companies in the world. There are more than 300 agri-businesses, that export more than 2 million tons of poultry and swine meat a year.
Producing foods is an undeniable vocation of the area and has already turned into part of the culture of its population. The five largest agri-businesses in the country possess head offices, branches and production units in the city.
The region is also recognized as one of the grain stores of the country and as the largest agro-industrial pole in Latin America.
This makes Chapecó the ideal place to hold MercoAgro.

The largest agri-businesses in the country are in the region. More than 50% of the nation's chicken meat production is from here. In 2002, 1.6 million tons of chicken and 475 thousand tons of swine meat were exported, corresponding to 70% of the national exports in the sector.
